The Critical Public Health Network brings together academics and practitioners interested in critical perspectives in public health. It aims to advance education and research in public health policy and practice through improving awareness and uptake of social science in the field of public health.
To achieve these aims, the network provides a forum for a group of critically minded social scientific and medical public health researchers, clinicians and activists to foster inter and intra public health disciplinary working. The network is committed to engaging membership from, and representing the interests of, social scientists and public health academics and practitioners researching and teaching public health both nationally (across the whole of the UK) and internationally.
The society publishes the Journal of Critical Public Health, an open access peer-reviewed scholarly journal launched in 2023 to continue providing a forum for research and debate in the tradition of its predecessors, Radical Community Medicine and Critical Public Health, following the resignation of the CPH Editorial Team and Board from its commercial publisher. The first issue of the Journal of Critical Public Health, published in May 2024, includes an editorial describing its mission.
